With all of the nationwide wireless operators offering some form of next-generation packet-data service, the industry is turning to regional operators for the next rollout of high-speed data services. Three of the largest regional operators that have announced data plans include Alltel Corp.

and U.S. Cellular Corp., which will both use a cdma200 1x-based network, and Dobson Communications Corp., which is overlaying its TDMA voice network with GPRS data capabilities.
