While Sierra Wireless Inc. posted revenues ahead of its fourth-quarter expectations, the wireless modem maker offered a dreary forecast for the coming months--prospects that may force the company to embark on a new business strategy and expand beyond the modem market. A research note from BMO Nesbitt Burns said Sierra Wireless is considering reorganizing its business to protect itself from the highly competitive and risky market for wireless modems.
The firm said although the exact direction the company plans to take is unclear, such a move would be prudent since Sierra needs to protect itself from increasing competition and the possibility of commoditization.
