Swisscom builds Wi-Fi project.(Global Wireless)

Swisscom Mobile has established a new firm focused on Wi-Fi technology called Swisscom Eurospot with Geneva headquarters. The new company acquired two public wireless local area network providers, U.K.-based Megabeam Networks and German company WLAN AG, with coverage in numerous European countries.

The operator said that through the acquisitions more than 400 hot spots are under contract and about 100 are operational. Including its 400 roaming partner hot spots, the company will offer services at more than 800 hot spots. Swisscom is one of the few European operators not saddled by heavy debt loads.
