Joltage ceases operations.(Business)

MOONEY The fate of Joltage Networks, a wireless Internet access provider that ceased operations Feb. 28, portends an upheaval in this sector over the next several years, said Probe Research, Cedar Knolls, N.J. "Because of the difficult economy, we are no longer able to finance our operations as we had once hoped we would be able to,'' said Andrew Weinreich, CEO of Joltage, in an e-mail to subscribers, according to published reports.

Based in New York, venture-backed Joltage began offering commercial service last April, providing a software package to let public hot spot owners monetize the Internet access they provided their customers. Persons logging onto Joltage-enabled Wi-Fi access points could not get past the Joltage...
