FCC clarifies LNP issues.(News)

The FCC's Wireless Telecommunications Bureau clarified that wireless carriers will not be liable for 911 information that is not properly relayed to public-safety answering points while a customer is porting a telephone number from wireline to wireless or vice versa. In addition, the Federal Communications Commission will not allow wireless carriers to impose out-porting restrictions on customers wishing to leave.

In other words, a carrier cannot prevent a subscriber from churning, even if they have an outstanding balance with the carrier. Finally, the FCC said it will resolve the wireless/wireline issue raised by the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association before the Nov. 24 wireless local number portability implementation deadline. ...
