Microsoft app allows employers to track Sprint, Bell Mobility phones.(News)

Microsoft Corp. today released its new MapPoint Location Server for sale to businesses, a product that will allow companies to track employees with Sprint PCS and Bell Mobility mobile phones.

"The location information is being exposed to the MapPoint server,'' explained Hugh Fletcher, product manager for Sprint's location services. "We're obviously thrilled and delighted to go to market with Microsoft.''

Indeed, Fletcher said, Microsoft will be the first company to score access to Sprint's location information. The carrier for two years has been selling GPS-capable mobile phones, but Microsoft will be the first third-party vendor to be able to tap into that location information.
