Tropos upgrade will allow bigger Wi-Fi networks.(Business)

Byline: EMILY MOTSAY Tropos Networks today unveiled an upgraded Version 3 of its system, a feat that will allow the company to target bigger and more densely populated metro areas with its widescale Wi-Fi solution. By providing cross-subnet roaming, the new system offers greater scalability, thereby allowing Tropos to build a bigger network, which is "the real emphasis here,'' said Bert Williams, vice president of marketing at Tropos.

In the previous version of the system, just one subnet-through which all Wi-Fi cells connect back to the Internet-existed per network. Users roaming between subnets would have been forced off the network and would have had to log back on once in range of another subnet. The hardware included in the new release...
