Canadian carriers maneuver to bid for Microcell.(Global Wireless)

The quest for Canada's smallest nationwide operator Microcell Telecommunications Inc. heated up last week as No. 2 Rogers Communications Inc. made a filing with Canadian regulators clearing the way for the company to make a bid for Microcell's assets, which have already garnered a $780 million unsolicited offer from No. 3 Telus Corp.

Rogers' filing followed an announcement that it would buy back AT&T Wireless Services Inc.'s 34-percent stake in Rogers Wireless Communications Inc. for more than $1.3 billion and in return not need AWS' consent to "offer to purchase or acquire shares or assets of Microcell.''
