KDDI expands 1x to 2 GHz band.(Global Wireless)

Motorola Inc. said it has begun deployment of its CDMA2000 1x solution on a 2 GHz network for Japanese wireless carrier KDDI, which is expected to commercially roll out innovative data and voice services on the new 3G network this month. KDDI currently offers 1x services on a Motorola-supplied 800 MHz network with 18 million subscribers.

The new packet-based 2 GHz network will allow KDDI to leverage additional bandwidth while offering the opportunity to provide more advanced Internet-Protocol-based feature enhancement, Motorola said.
