Operating system company Symbian Ltd. reported increasing sales and shipments for the third quarter, as well as plans to target mid-range devices rather than just high-end devices. The company said its licensees shipped a combined 3.7 million devices running the Symbian operating system in the third quarter, way up from the 1.2 million devices shipped in the same quarter last year.
The company said its licensees-which include Nokia Corp., Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications L.P. and others-have shipped a total of 19.2 million Symbian phones. Symbian reported $30 million in revenues for the quarter, up from the $17.3 million it reported in the same quarter last year.
