Virgin Mobile targets March 1 launch in Canada.(News)

RCR Wireless News, February, 2005

The Virgin Mobile Group is reportedly set to launch a mobile virtual network operator-based wireless service in Canada March 1 using Bell Canada's CDMA network. The service is expected to be similar to Virgin's MVNO launch in the United States using Sprint PCS' network that since mid-2002 has signed up more than 3 million prepaid subscribers.

Virgin announced plans to launch its Canadian service last year using Bell Canada's network, which at the time was the largest carrier in Canada. Rogers Wireless has since supplanted Bell Canada as the country's largest carrier following its acquisition late last year of Microcell Telecommunications Inc.
