Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo Inc. will use Macromedia Inc.'s FlashCast technology as the infrastructure for its i-channel news and information service, according to Macromedia. I-channel users can push an i-channel button and select the channel they want to see, including news, weather, entertainment reports, sports and horoscopes. The service is being launched together with DoCoMo's FOMA 701i series third-generation handsets.

The European Commission approved Siemens AG's plan to offload its mobile-phone operations to Taiwanese electronics company BenQ Corp. The commission said there wouldn't be any effect on European competition because BenQ will enter the market against stalwarts such as Nokia Corp. and Samsung...
