Florida to study wireless for warning systems.(News)

Charlie Crist (R) wants to examine alternative emergency warning systems-including those based on wireless technology-in the aftermath of the Feb. 2 tornado that killed 20 people. The Florida Division of Emergency Management will study the issue and report back to Crist, said Vivian Myrtetus, a spokeswoman for the governor.

Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp told the Tallahassee Democrat that Crist was looking into a variety of ways to notify citizens faster before and during emergencies, but that building more sirens is likely not at the top of the list.
