Congress likely to give IDEA $100 million increase in FY06.(Individuals with Disabilities Education Act)

The state grant program under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act is likely to receive a $100 million increase next year above the current funding level of $10.59 million.

The Senate Appropriations Committee recommended $10.69 billon for state special education grants, and the House has approved $10.74 million. The differences will be worked out in a House-Senate conference committee after the August recess.

The funding is part of the FY06 appropriations bill for the departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (H.R. 3010; RDL, July, p. 63).
