Victory had the look of a loser when it took a chair at the table of the well-established and entrenched players of the booming cruiser market in 1998. Suffering from balky transmissions and chronic blandness, the company had to rethink its bets and up the ante, or cut its losses and fold.

It seemed like a long shot, with few industry analysts giving the fledgling company much of a chance. Just when it looked like Victory would throw in its cards, it stunned the market with the debut of the eye-popping Vegas in 2003, the year the Polaris division's fearless leader, Mark Blackwell, called a "rebirth" for the brand. Victory's moribund fortunes took a quick turn and it found its niche, rolling out a new model each year that pushes the edge of factory custom...
