By Robert Damora Widespread problem plagues many Arizona contractors The ready availability of cement still remains tight in Arizona. Reduced cement production on a local level, coupled with tariffs on imported cement, fewer cement truck drivers to haul the material and China's insatiable need for the material to satisfy its construction demands (particularly for facilities for the 2008 Olympics) are some of the reasons Arizona is facing a severe shortage of cement, industry officials say.
While cement demand remains strong in most states, some Arizona cement producers have instituted a cash-and-carry policy. And because local inventories are lean, many producers are not honoring agreements that allow bulk haulers to get cement on a credit...
