Wind Power Project Under Way In New Mexico.
Rocky Mountain Construction, October, 2005
Staff Portales, N.M.-- Roosevelt County Commissioners have authorized the issuance of industrial revenue bonds to help finance construction of Xcel Energy's $160-million San Juan Mesa wind power plant near Elida, along highway US-70 in eastern New Mexico. Padoma Wind Power Co. of La Jolla, Calif., has already begun construction of the 120-megawatt facility, located primarily in Roosevelt County with some of the 120 Mitsubishi turbines sited in adjacent Chavez County.
When completed next year, the plant will furnish power to Xcel customers in eastern New Mexico, west Texas and Oklahoma. The bonds will be paid off by private investors over a 20-year period.
