ADOT To Study Phoenix, Tucson Bypass.(Arizona Department of Transportation)(Brief article)

Staff Phoenix- This month the Arizona Department of Transportation plans to award a contract for a consultant to explore the idea of a four-lane highway alternative to Interstate 10 but bypassing both Phoenix and Tucson as it traveled east-west across the state. The proposed route, approximately 200 miles long, would run from I-10 at Buckeye, west of Phoenix, southeast to the Willcox/Benson area east of Tucson, rejoining I-10 there.
Such a bypass could relieve urban freeway congestion and minimize, if not eliminate, the need for future major widenings of I-10 in Phoenix and Tucson. S.L.
