Cooper Tire, Versa, West Co. post improved results.

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., Versa Technologies Inc. and West Co. Inc. recorded increases in net income for their most recent fiscal periods, while Vulcan International Corp. posted a decline.
Rogers Corp. reported a rise in net profits, while Plymouth Rubber Co. registered a decrease. Both firms derive less than 50 percent of their revenues from rubber products.
* Strong sales by Cooper Tire's engineered product and tire segments helped the firm's net income skyrocket 25 percent to $31.5 million in 1997's second quarter. Sales rose 16.3 percent to $464 million.
"U.S. replacement tire demand for light vehicles was at average levels, while Cooper's shipments again outpaced the industry," said Chairman Patrick W. Rooney.
