The dedication of some youth service professionals never ceases to amaze me. When I start to get disillusioned by the absolute reckless disregard for the safety of children in some schools, I force myself to remember that there are many who toil relentlessly to provide the safest environment they can for our kids.

The dedication of some advocates for the children moves me deeply--a school security officer from Louisiana who adopted four at-risk youth to raise with her own two boys after her husband's death; a Georgia school district police officer who ordered $1,200 worth of T-shirts ...
