Mathematical notation on the Web. (Mathematical Software).

One of the most important benefits of the Internet is the ability for colleagues to share files and publish research results to the Web. Unfortunately, HTML did not have a provision for mathematical notation, making it difficult to post and share mathematical data. Many researchers resorted to creating image files online to communicate their equations and notes--not an efficient use of time or resources.

In response to this problem, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) developed MathML, the Mathematical Markup Language to facilitate the use of mathematical and scientific content on the Web.
