Small, ultra-portable media cards that slip easily into cameras as memory devices have liberated digital cameras from the tethers that once bound them to computers. Among the recent trends in these ultra-portables is speed--that's speed as in how fast a digital camera can write to a card and how fast the computer can read from the card.

Why is this significant? The faster you can shoot during a wedding or sporting event, the greater your chances are of getting "the shot"--especially when shooting in a hectic environment.
