A photo by Mead Norton, a Master's degree candidate at Brooks Institute of Photography, has been awarded first place in the 2005 Banff Mountain Photography competition. Norton's winning photo, "Prayer Offerings on the Shore or Namtso Lake, Tibet" (above) was shot on a recent trip to that location--the highest saltwater lake in the world.

[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Six Brooks Institute students enrolled in the Visual Journalism Program, in Santa Barbara, California, have just returned from Argentina. They were selected for the trip based on their ability to demonstrate an understanding of photographic story-telling, and work independently....
