Labor law: accommodations for disabilities--what is reasonable?

The Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act were both intended to provide protection for qualified individuals with disabilities who wanted to be gainfully employed. At the time these statutes were passed, considerable discrimination existed against individuals with disabilities, even though they desired work and could work. The Rehabilitation Act was the first statute to be passed. It dealt with public employees. The Americans with Disabilities Act came later and provided coverage to private employees, as well as other protections. Although the statutes are not identical, their intent was the same, and courts frequently analyze cases under the two statutes in the same way.
