The University of Pennsylvania's PennNet is a fiberoptic network that uses high-speed packet switching technology along with AT and T's Information System Network (ISN) to move information electronically throughout the campus. PennNet currently includes 15 ISN nodes and more than 500 access ports on host computers; it accommodates about 1,500 desktop computing devices, and connections are growing by about 100 monthly. PennNet services include: local area networking; Ethernet communications; electronic mail; gateways; and access to PennLIN, an online library card catalog.
