Two Internet courses offered in the spring semester 1998 initiated the Distance Learning program of the mathematics department at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Presentations done on surfaces looking like chalkboards and accompanied by instructors' voice representations were deemed essential aspects of the online instruction. VisualTek Solutions' Rendezvous provided a whiteboard conferencing solution, although the original software needed minor modifications by VisualTek to suit the department's particular needs. Microsoft's Netshow provided a means for audio feed of the lectures.
