Stanford University's Stanford Online distance learning program is a flexible, effective way for professionals to enhance their skills without putting their careers on hold. The Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD) pioneered the project which uses streaming video technology to deliver lectures and other course materials over the Internet to the student's home or work PC. The content is archived to allow students flexible access to the course work. Because of the capacity demands that large archives of streaming video data place on a network, Stanford has implemented a high-performance Quantum DLT 7000 half-inch cartridge tape drive to back up and store course data.
