Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedSET plans US$65 million programme investment for 2001/2.

Sony Entertainment Television (SET) will double its programme budget to Rs3 billion (US$65 million) for 2001-2202, according to SET chief executive, Kunal Dasgupta. 2000-2001 profits are expected to be Rs600 million (US$13 million) -- similar to the previous year -- with revenue projections at Rs6 billion (US$129 million), a 50 percent increase from the previous year. Among the new ventures are an alliance with Columbia Tristar and Sony Music for film production and distribution, and a 20-channel bouquet on Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited's DTH platform. A Rs1.5 billion (US$32 million) investment is being planned for DTH programming and channels. SET will spend Rs700 million (US$15 million) digitising its 7,000 hours of television and film content.
