Janine Stein looks at who is riding on the swings and who has scraped their knees falling off the roundabouts What once looked like one of Asia's brightest subscription television hopes now looks like yet another burst bubble.
Of the five players granted subscription television licenses in Hong Kong last year, only one -- Yes TV -- looks like it will go ahead with its plans. The others -- including the big guns upon whom most bets were placed -- have either pulled out entirely (News Corp's STAR) or are scrabbling around trying to pull together the investment required to launch high-cost digital services (Television Broadcasts Ltd's Galaxy Satellite Broadcasting). ...
