Three of Japan's five competing commercial networks -- Fuji TV, TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System) and TV Asahi -- will form a US$50-million joint venture to promote high-speed Internet distribution of pay-per-view TV programmes to PC users next spring. The move aims to strengthen the trio's chances in the broadband communications race.

Others companies, including telcos, are expected to join the new venture.
