Singapore takes regional TV production fund lead. (Review).(contracts with National Geographic channel)

Singapore's Economic Development Board (EDB) has succeeded in wooing the National Geographic channel back to the island-state with a US$1.95-million production fund based in Singapore. National Geographic, which shifted to Hong Kong in May/June 1999 after Rupert Murdoch's News Corp acquired the network, will hold a 50-percent stake in the new documentary production fund.

The one-year project, which kicks off in January 2002, plans to produce a minimum of eight hours of programming. The shows have been divided into two modules: "Reel Talent" targeting Asia-based directors younger than 35-years old, and "Asia to the World" for production companies based in Asia.
