Television Asia, January, 2002

Net profits at the state-owned Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) have dropped to US$1.5 million this year from US$3.16 million last year, according to PTV chairman, Anwar Mehmood. Mehmood, who is also secretary of the Ministry of Information and Media Development, said PTV's total revenues this year amounted to US$42.83 million.

PTV lagged behind in technology and equipment and the government would be requested to extend a special grant to buy modern equipment for the corporation, he added. Mehmood also disclosed that the ministry was reviewing a proposal to allow Shalimar Recording and Broadcasting Company (SRBC) to launch a second TV channel, STN-II. The Government has a 53-percent stake in SRBC.
