Sony Entertainment TV bags new Indian cricket TV contract.(Brief Article)

Sony Pictures Entertainment's Sony Entertainment Television (SET) is believed to have agreed to pay about US$375 million for international cricket rights for six years, beating out ESPN Star Sports and the Prasar Bharti Corporation, which operates state-owned Doordarshan channels. A formal announcement is expected in March.

The move, which includes terrestrial and satellite rights, will allow SET to add a coveted sports channel to its bouquet, and is likely to be a blow to ESPN STAR Sports, which relies on cricket to drive its India business. SET will be paying between US$250 million and US$275 million for the satellite rights. Advertising sources close to the deal estimate the terrestrial rights fees to be between US$90 million and US$100 million....
