Philippines's dominant broadcaster, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp, plans to cut its workforce by three percent this year. About 250 staff members from, among others, ABS-CBN News Channel, Star Cinema and ABS-CBN Interactive, are involved. The first wave of redundancies is expected to be announced before end March 2002.

The move is part of ABS-CBN's plan to cut operating expenses by 15 percent, or US$9.7 million.
