CCTV demands dual CA systems for new project. (Satellite/Technology).(China Central Television; conditional access)(Brief Article)

China's state broadcaster, China Central Television (CCTV) has insisted on a dual conditional access system for its latest project to transmit four CCTV channels - 3, 5, 6 and 8 -- to cable operators around me country., CCTV will use both News Corp's NDS Open Videoguard conditional access technology and MIH's Irdeto CA systems in a simulcrypt operation from Beijing to the provinces.

NDS' interactive platform being used by CCTV 5 will also be encrypted using the new system. If the dual-CA route is expensive in that headend costs, among others, are doubled, the move means CCTV will not be tied to a CA vendor or to a set-top box distributor.
