Conditional access technology vendors are carving up India's CAS market as the industry moves towards the July 14 deadline for the implementation of addressable pay-TV systems in four metro areas--Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Calcutta. The four markets cover about 6.7 million of India's estimated 44 million cable subscribers.
Although there are serious doubts and reservations (mostly from programmers) about implementation, conditional access vendors are clearly delighted that India is finally being forced to spend money on their systems. MSO Hathway Cable & Datacom Group plc has signed a deal with News Corp's NDS. NDS StreamServer digital broadcasting management, VideoGuard conditional access and NDS Core middleware will be installed in Hathway's operation centre...
