Thailand's TV advertising spending is set to remain strong to end 2003. Merrill Lynch Phatra Securities analysts report TV spend rising 14.3 percent in the first half to Bht20.5 billion/US$500 million from Bht18 billion/US$439 million over the same period last year. TV continues to grab the lion's share--61 percent--of adspend.
Merrill Lynch attributed the increase to higher purchasing power fueled by a low interest rates, steady economic recovery and fierce competition among consumer products. Singapore-based JP Morgan Securities Asia analyst, Andrew Swan, says year-on-year figures may be marginally down from second half 2002, but strong underlying ad spend growth will remain.
