Internet distribution of terrestrial TV content is opening up a new round of competition among networks. The latest race was triggered by Fuji TV's VOD distribution of the 2005 World Grand Prix women's volleyball matches. This was followed by Nippon TV's plan to stream internet VOD content from October under the tentative name, Nippon TV2.

Fuji TV on Demand offered 15 volleyball matches in July for [yen] 525/US$4.73. Jupiter Telecom (J:Com) and Yahoo BB carried the same matches from Fuji TV on the J:Com On Demand and BBTVVOD services for [yen] 105/US$0.95 a match from 16 July.
