Dow draws its matrix again--and again, and again ...

STRUGGLING to manage far-flung businesses in every corner of the world, multinational companies often seem to be perennially reinventing the wheel, dashing from one reorganisation to another and back again. Dow Chemical, headquartered in Midland, Michigan, has been one of the most assiduous corporate tinkerers with global organisation. Nevertheless it stuck with its original idea and after a quarter of a century of fiddling it seems at last to be getting it right.
