Slow European markets and increasing competition are causing sales and profits to fall significantly for Cap Gemini Sogeti. The computer services firm is pushing forward with plans for global expansion and acquisitions despite its woes.

FOUR years ago Cap Gemini Sogeti, Europe's biggest computer- software and services group, hatched ambitious plans to become a global giant. But going global is proving tough. Faced with sluggish European markets and stiff competition from newer rivals, the French firm is bleeding red ink. And doubts have surfaced once again about the future of its relationship with Germany's Daimler- Benz, which owns 34% of Sogeti, CGS's parent company.
