Unemployment was the primary focus of the Jun 7-8, 1994, meeting of the 25 member OECD countries. A report issued after the meeting encouraged job training, deregulation and cutbacks in jobless benefits as effective ways to reduce unemployment.

WHEN ministers from the 25 member countries of the Organisation for Co-operation and Development (OECD) gathered in Paris on June 7th and 8th, jobs were top of the agenda. Around 35m people, or 8.5% of the workforce, are out of work in OECD economies. As many as 15m more have given up looking for work altogether or are working part- time when they would rather be in full-time jobs. Is there any solution to this misery?
