ON A single day this month a comedy series called "Kids in the Hall" was seen for 90 minutes on an American television channel called Comedy Central. That was followed by another 90 minutes of different segments of "Kids in the Hall" on CBS, one of the national television networks. The same night Comedy Central gave Americans the first showing of a new series called "Vacant Lot". At the same time, a new Hollywood movie called "The Mask", which stars Jim Carrey, a Canadian comic, had taken four times as much at the box office as the $20m it cost to make. It so happens that all the actors in "Kids" and in "Vacant Lot" are also Canadian. What is going on?
