GROWTH: Asia still boasts the world's most dynamic emerging economies. According to the OECD's latest Economic Outlook, China will yet again have the fastest growth in 1996 and 1997. The OECD expects China's GDP to rise by 10.5% in each of the two years. Thailand and Malaysia come next: both economies are likely to grow by around 8% this year.

With its high savings rate and dynamic economy, Chile is often called the Asian tiger of Latin America. The OECD's forecasters agree. With a projected growth of 7% in 1996, Chile will be the fastest-growing emerging economy outside Asia, and will be more dynamic than many in Asia.
