Political reform is one of the major issues of the upcoming May 1998 presidential and congressional elections in Ecuador. Pres Fabian Alarcon promised when he took office to install a reform commission by Aug 1998, but that is no longer certain. Social Christian Party leader Jaime Nebot may oppose Alarcon.

WILL Ecuador ever get an assembly to reform its constitution?
