A newspaper empire is put up for sale as its chief executive steps down in disgrace

Lord Black, who was ousted this week from his position as chief executive of Hollinger International, a newspaper company, is fighting desperately for his power and his reputation. For months he has denied allegations of bad corporate governance and financial strain. But this week the charges against him got much worse when the firm said that he, his holding company and his colleagues had taken $32.2m of "non-competition payments" from it without permission.
