The most uneventful bid in media history fizzles out

THIS has been a magic week for Michael Eisner, boss of Walt Disney, who has been fighting attempts to unseat him, one way or another. Comcast, a giant cable firm, announced the withdrawal of the $66 billion hostile bid that it made in February for Disney. That good news for Mr Eisner came one day after Disney's board affirmed its full support for him following a two-day meeting. Mr Eisner's position had seemed precarious. At Disney's annual meeting in March, 45% of shareholders failed to support his re-election to the board, and he was stripped of his role as chairman. Now he can congratulate himself that, on the surface at least, things are back to normal.
