Ava is hot - Riley is too. Mia is in, but Maia is on the way out.

The Department of Internal affairs has announced the most popular names of 2007. Ella and Jack topped the charts.

Ava climbed eight places from 26th on the girls' list in 2006 to 18th last year.

Mia rose six places to 19th, while Georgia dropped 11 places to 26 and Maia fell seven places to number 25.

Christchurch's Jenny and Arron Johnson-Stark were right in the mainstream with naming of their first child -- four- month-old Jack would have been Ella had he been a girl.
