FIGS forever

The number of fig trees growing in Christchurch is surprising. Granted, some specimens are pitiful, but given time and decent weather, most trees thrive and bear fruit. Maybe not the full fat figs of warmer climes, but figs for all that. Then what? Leave them to rot? Pick them green? Feed the birds? Get into a pickle, say homecooks who follow the Squirrel Nutkin rule (putting away summer's comestibles to enjoy during winter).
