FCC nominee Rachelle Chong cares deeply about the issue of violence on television, and she would like to see the FCC do something about it if the networks don't tone down their programing. Chong told a Senate panel last Wednesday that voluntary guidelines are appropriate, but the FCC should consider action if the networks air too much violent programing.

Asked what the FCC might do to rid the airwaves of what Senator John Danforth (R-Mo.) characterized as "straight sex and straight violence," Chong suggested that the agency "award demerits" to broadcasters.
