Pushes for $1.2 billion fund to foster competitive, exportable programing In a move that could irk U.S. free traders, the Geneva-based European Broadcasting Union wants the European Union to set up a $1.2 billion fund to subsidize intra-European TV program trade. In a proposal released at a European Union broadcasting conference in Brussels June 30-July 2, the EBU says it wants to boost the share of "nonnational European" programs broadcast by channels in the EU, which it estimates at 8%.
